HGVs are becoming an increasing problem in Impington when they park in residential areas where there aren't the necessary facilities for drivers.
Its a problem affecting more than just Impington, being made worse by the closure of laybys on main roads.
Thanks to a combined effort, this was taken to the relevant County Council Committee (the South Cambridgeshire Traffic Management Area Joint Committee) that met on 7th July (details).
The decision was:
- consider parking controls to address lorry parking in residential streets in Impington, and other villages adjacent to the strategic road network.
- continue to work with other agencies to provide more appropriate locations for lorry parking as soon as possible.
Which is good news!

I confidentally predict you will have a long battle to get parking restrictions. Milton PC wanted to get double yellow lines at the bottom of the Jane Coston bridge. That's for a safety issue, not an environmental one, and despite that it took several years to get them. Among the problems they encountered was the claim that the police wouldn't enforce them - they ended up getting our local bobby to write in support of them!
