Important changes to your bin collection

We have received the following from South Cambridgeshire District Council:

Green bin collections

Green bin collections will be moving to a monthly collection during the winter months when far less garden waste is put out by residents. The change is being made for December, January and February collections only, with fortnightly collections remaining in place for the rest of the year.

Christmas collections

We’re asking residents to make an early note of Christmas bin collections as changes this year will affect all residents, with some collections moving forward as well as back. Collections will be made up until 27 December, break until 4 January and return to normal on 5 January.

  • Please ensure bins are put out by 6am on the day of collection
  • You can recycle all your Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the blue bin
  • You can compost all leftover food (cooked and raw) and real Christmas trees (cut up) in the green bin
  • Excess blue bin material will routinely be collected when placed alongside the blue bin in a returnable container or cardboard box
  • Excess black bin waste will be collected if placed alongside the bin on the first scheduled black bin collection after the New Year only.

Crossing news from the Junior School

The Junior School has advised parents and children to use the new crossing point:

“Please remember NOT to cross outside the Co-op with your child as this is not a safe crossing point. Please remember to cross the road where the new crossing will be. It is a safe point with good sight lines in both directions for both motorists and pedestrians.”

They are also organising a collection and special assembly for the crossing patrolman who is retiring – “to thank him for all his years of helping our children cross the road safely”.

If you have a connection with the school and would like to contribute please contact the school office.

IVC 75 celebrations hotting up …

With the start of the new school year activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Impington Village College are starting to happen. Here’s an update from Amy Wormald:

Dear Colleagues, Friends and Supporters of IVC

I am delighted to share with you our Impington 75 Festival brochure, detailing events and activities that are happening at IVC during the year of our 75th anniversary. Please have a look at the attached programme (click here) or visit our website for more details at www.impington75.org.uk

Across the summer holidays we embarked on stage 1 of the restoration programme of our Grade 1 Listed building. Despite some flooding experienced in August, the work has progressed well and the Gropius Building has regained some of its original charm. We invite you to come and see the building and enjoy our 75 Pieces exhibition at the anniversary open weekend on 13 – 14 September.

On Saturday 13 September the anniversary event runs from 4 – 8pm with an opportunity to meet up with friends, former classmates and teachers, plus the premier screening of a film about the College, music, art and more. On Sunday 14 September there will be a community open day from 12pm – 4pm with lots of free workshops and activities for all ages to enjoy. Refreshments will be served across the weekend or you can bring a picnic to enjoy in the grounds. On Sunday 14 September, we also launch our new Sunday Cinema night. Full details of the activities and events can be found in the brochure.

We hope you will be able to join us in our celebrations!

With kind regards

We would be interested to hear about how you were affected and hope to gather information to pass onto the appropriate authorities to help plan for the future.  Photographic evidence is most welcome but not necessary

Yesterday GE Energy Management on Vision Park hired pitches on the Recreation Ground for a charity 5-a-side football tournament as part of a Company Family Fun Day.  They picked a beautiful day.  Great fun was had by all, with a barbecue lunch, and they went away very happy.

Having raised over £500 for Impington based charity Camtrust, the organiser reports  ‘We had an excellent time in excellent weather with excellent facilities’

Community public access defibrillator

Life saving community public access defibrillators ( CPADs ) are becoming visible in communities across the country and there is now one installed and operable at the Histon & Impington Recreation Ground.

The exact CPAD location is on the side of the Recreation Ground Centre building nearest the car park and the grass tennis courts, and the £2000 cost of the CPAD has been funded by the Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation Ground from the profits from The Flaming June Half Marathon.

The CPAD unit contains an automated external defibrillator or AED which is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.

The CPAD unit is vandal proof with a keypad and, when 999 is dialled, the ambulance service operator will provide a code to the caller to access the unit and the AED is available for immediate use. An untrained person can use the AED with guidance from the 999 operator or instructions contained within the unit.

The provision of a CPAD will enable residents within the village to access the unit and the emergency services operators are aware of the community locations of units. Consideration should perhaps be given to the provision of additional CPADs in the village.

A defibrillator is used together with Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR ) and a couple of initial CPR training sessions have been organised in September and October at the Rec. If you are interested in attending please contact Neil Davies ( 01223 232514 ).

You may have heard of Community First Responders who are volunteers who take it on turns to be ‘ on call ‘ in the village and carry basic first aid equipment and a portable defibrillator. The responders are activated by text by the Ambulance Service to attend 999 emergency calls within the community they live or work.

There are a couple of Community First Responders in the village including Angus Macaulay and if you are interested please do call Angus after 7pm on 01223 526616
